Introduction
This week we see the completion of the wall including the installation of the doors. The city was secure and sealed. What happens next reveals the purposes behind building the wall. As soon as the doors were installed, gatekeepers, singers and Levites (priests) were appointed. Priority one was reinstating WORSHIP! Then the people are drawn into participation and support of the worship. The wall is the protection of worship, so that all people may see the glories of God and find refuge in him.
This month we are focusing on the Habit of Grace of Worship. This is the perfect reading to help lead us into this. It shows us that Worship is the goal. It is the only habit of grace that is not a means to an end, it is the end! Our engagement in all the habits of grace are intended to shepherd us towards and into worship. The direction of all things on earth is to the eternal worship of God and the Lamb who was slain (Jesus).
Discussion
- Read Nehemiah chapter 7:1-7,61-73
- What is the state of the wall around your worship life?; What is tearing down the walls, which protect a heart of worship?
- Is there hope for the walls to be rebuilt and for worship to be established forevermore?
Pray with one another, and ask God to secure a heart of worship in our community.
Habit of Grace
Worship
Worship is not a means to an end, it is the end.
Share with one another
- What is your relationship with/experience in personal and corporate worship?
- When you try to worship, what are things that distract you, what are some things that draw you in?
Practice
Make a playlist of worship songs you enjoy or one that already exists. Share recommendations. For the next week, replace radio, podcast or music time with worship music, and pray for the Holy Spirit to bring your heart to a place of worship.
