What are Deacons & Elders?
Elders
What is an Elder?
Our Elders are the spiritual authority over Kingscross, and are responsible for shepherding and leading our church family. Elders focus on the spiritual health of our church community, offering wisdom, accountability, and support to both the members and the church leadership, known as pastoral care.
The concept of elders comes from both the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, elders were respected leaders of communities. In the New Testament, elders were appointed by apostles to lead and care for local churches. At Kingscross, the terms Elder and Pastor describe the same role (Acts 20:17, 28)
Deacons
The role of a Deacon comes from the New Testament in the Bible. The first Deacons were appointed in Acts (6:1-6) to help distribute food to widows and ensure no one in the church was overlooked. Deacons continue that tradition of service.
At Kingscross our Deacons serve the church and community by handling practical tasks that allow the church to function smoothly, freeing up Pastors/Elders to give attention to the ministry of the word of God and prayer
