Introduction
Nehemiah 11 A willing heart... finding your home in Godʼs will
Over the past few chapters we have seen Nehemiahʼs generation read Godʼs word for six hours in chapter 8. Then they read and prayed for six hours in chapter 9. And they made a covenant with God in chapter 10 based on what they had read. The spirit of God is working in the lives of his people through the truths of his Word. Before this three chapter movement, the people had rebuilt the walls of the city, but “the city was wide and large, but the people within it were few, and no houses had been rebuiltˮ 74. So even though the walls were rebuilt and the gates put in place, the city was still in shambles. To complete the renewal of Jerusalem the people consecrate themselves and their families to Godʼs mission for Jerusalem to be a holy city, a light for all nations by moving into the city to support the worship of God.
Discussion
- Read Nehemiah chapter 1112
- Note in the verses to follow there were people of the tribe of Judah and Benjamin, priests, Levites, gatekeepers and singers moving into Jerusalem.
- Has God called you to a specific mission?
- How would you feel as the lot was cast and it landed on your name to confirm your calling?
Pray with one another. Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak to you, to call you into his mission to bring salvation to the lost and the sanctification of his children. Time to partner with God!
Habit of Grace
Service
Service is often not seen as a habit of grace or a spiritual disciple, but rather just a requirement of being a part of a group. Like any family or team you need to participate to really be a part of it. However, the opportunity, desire and capacity to serve is a gift from God designed to shape us in ways that bring fulfilment and joy in God himself.

Share with one another
- How did you go in serving someone last week?
- What was the impact on them and on you?
- How might your specific gifting and spiritual gifts be used in building up the church?
- Is there anything holding you back from exercising your gifting?
Practice
- Pray for God to expose his desire to put you on mission for his glory. Giving specific clarity on gifting and application.
- Commit to serving in some formal capacity. This can be in any ministry. The commitment can be weekly, monthly, weekend, weekday, evening, morning. Note: Sundayʼs at Kingscross is not the only time/place where the church can be built up. There are no limits to the calling of God.
